Extended Active Contour Algorithm Based on Color Variance

Abstract-General active contour algorithm, which uses intensit y value of image, has been used to actively segment objects. Because objects hav e a similar intensity value but different colors, it is difficult to segment any  object from others. Moreover, this algorithm can only be used in simple environ ment as it is very sensitive to noise. In order to solve these problems. This pa per proposes an extended active contour algorithm based on a color variance. In  complex images, we introduce the color variance energy as the image energy into  the general active contour algorithm. Experimental results show that the propose d active contour algorithm is very effective in various environments.
